Wilting in the heatwave

Temperatures in Berlin hit 37 degrees today - which in a summer of unusually dry and freakish weather, made Berlin several celsius degrees hotter than Rome. The evening news advised people to follow the example of the mediterranean peoples and take more breaks. Next thing you know, the archives will close for siesta, and the trains will run late. Chaos will rule and overly tanned, sweaty Germans will run amok under the delusion that this is Italy. Oh the horror!

On the bright side, tomorrow I will be boarding a train to the northern coast for some relief from the heat and some R & R. The trip has doubled in size, with the latest news that not only will Georg join Michael and the three of us American girls, but also Georg's Russian friend Dima. It should be an interesting trip.
